Hello Year 1,

I hope you are doing well and are not missing school too much! I am so pleased to see lots of students have sent some snippets of their home-school learning to the school office. I am happy to see how lots of you are writing a daily recount that you may one day cherish. This week, I look forward to hearing from the budding poets in Year 1.

As a class, we were reading Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach. Parents, please feel free to grab a copy and read a chapter to your child each night as it really captured their imaginations and introduced a lot of new  and exciting vocabulary.

Recap 5 senses ‘sight, taste, smell, hear and feel’

Write a Spring senses poem.

Spellings-  Weekly

Read and write out spellings. Identify patterns; what ‘graphemes’ do you recognise? Write out the spellings, identify the phonemes and use your sound buttons.

 

Maths- Skip Counting

Discuss skip counting in 2’s

Tuesday, 31st March ‘20

English- reading and writing : Poetry

Write a senses poem about your home.

I hear.. I see…, I feel…, I taste

Write your daily recount.

 

Spellings-  Weekly

Put your spellings into sentences.

Think of other words that have the same spelling pattern.

Challenge from my spelling group. Explain to your parents what is an alternative phoneme. Show them examples in this weeks spellings. (/r/ and /oi/ alternative phonemes)

Discuss skip counting in 5’s.

Read and discuss poem.  Identify the nouns and make a list of more.

History

Oral – Discuss transport.

List transport of flight, sea and land.

Oral- Recap cars and flight. Discuss how transport has changed.

Main task- Research Handley Page and the planes he built.

PSHE

Oral -Communicating how you feel.

Oral- List the people you communicate to and why.

Main task-

Write about the difference between a surprise and secret.

Computing

Oral- How to keep safe online

Oral- What is E-safety?

Create a picture on Paint Programme of you and your family . Use 2D shapes

PE

Oral- Why do we do P.E?

Warm up- How can we warm up? Demonstrate exercises.

Practise catching and throwing skills playing a game.

Science-

Observing and recording seasonal change

Recap on the 4 seasons and 12 months of the year. Try writing the months of year out in a list. Go on a nature walk and make a ‘forest face’ using natural materials such as leaves, grass, stones, moss ect.

Art /DT

Art – Complete a piece of printing. Use a piece of string, plastic cookie cutter or a small toy to print paint with. Compare to last weeks work when you used natural materials. Make a spring scene.

DT – Investigate cogs and wheels of a vehicle. Revisit your research of the axels and wheels on a car model from last week (It can be a simple toy model of a car). Make your own axel and wheel model using a skewer and plastic lid from a milk carton.

Music

Find some everyday objects around the house and experiment with sounds. Consider the sound it makes , whether it’s a high or low pitch. Make a sequence of noises using three everyday objects and present to a parent!
